Minnesota Family Law Reform

80%

80% SELF-REPRESENTED IN CIVIL CASES

Nearly 80% of Minnesota family cases involve at least one self-represented parent, making fair parenting-time outcomes harder to achieve.

73%

73 DIVORCED LOSE IN-LAW CONTACT

In a survey of 73 divorced adults, frequency of contact with former in-laws declined substantially, reducing extended family support.

69%

$513M Child Support Linked to Parenting Time

Parenting time directly affects child support. In 2023, Minnesota’s program served 292,245 parents and 206,649 children, collecting $513M. Even small changes in overnights shift obligations.

1,600%

1,600% HIGHER SEPARATION RISK (INDIGENOUS VS WHITE)

Indigenous children in Minnesota are separated from their families at a rate 1,600% higher than white children, showing the deepest disparity in family preservation outcomes.
